Getting Started With Therapy
You do not need to have the right words ready. Start with the concern that has been taking up your day.
From a Question to an Appointment
Maybe you have been thinking about therapy between classes or after another difficult workday. I begin with a short consultation so we can talk about what you need and the practical details. You can ask questions before deciding to schedule the longer intake conversation.
Reach Out for a Consultation
Call (203) 308-5030 or email bridget@bmoorecounseling.com for a free 15-minute consultation. Tell me briefly what you want help with and ask what you need to know. If writing feels easier, the contact form lets you send me a short request instead.
Choose How We Meet
We can meet in person in Shelton or online. Tell me which state you will physically be in for sessions. For online appointments, that must be Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey or Rhode Island, including a session from work or during a visit with family.
Make Room for the Intake
The intake fee is confirmed during your free consultation. Our intake is 60 minutes. I ask about mental health, medical, social, family, educational and work history because your current concerns have context. We talk about what you want to change and set goals together, rather than expecting you to arrive with a complete plan.
Continue With Regular Sessions
Individual sessions are 45 minutes and cost $175, weekly or every other week. We discuss the situations you are facing and skills you can practice between appointments. Bringing back what happened when you tried something gives us a concrete place to begin the next conversation.
What to Have Ready
Think about the concern that led you to call, your weekday daytime availability and where you will be during appointments. I accept some insurance plans and offer private pay too; ask about your plan during a free 15-minute consultation. Superbills are available for possible out-of-network reimbursement, which is not guaranteed; check your plan’s benefits. For an online session, arrange a private space and a stable connection on a phone or computer.
Checking the Fit
I work with adults ages 18 and up seeking therapy for themselves, including students, professionals and adults changing paths. My appointments are daytime on weekdays, with no evenings or weekends. Tell me if the schedule or physical-location rule will be hard to meet so we can consider that before starting.
If Another Option Makes More Sense
If your needs do not fit my practice, I can point you toward other options. That may come up because of your schedule, location or the kind of care you need. A consultation can help clarify those limits without committing you to an intake.
Between Appointments
Texts are for scheduling changes and quick wins you want to share. They are not emergency support. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911 instead of waiting for a reply from me.
Leave Room for Questions
You can ask how a method works, what happens during a session or how we review goals. I want to hear those questions early, including doubts about therapy. They give us useful information about what you need from our conversations.
