Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the practical details clients ask about before we meet, from the first call to a change of location.
Questions Before We Talk
The fee, the schedule and where you can be for a session all matter when choosing therapy. I have grouped those details here so you can check them before calling. If your question is about your own situation, bring it to a free 15-minute consultation.
Getting Started
How Do I Request a Consultation?
Call (203) 308-5030 or email bridget@bmoorecounseling.com. The consultation is free and lasts 15 minutes. The contact form works too, and I confirm any appointment with you directly.
What Can We Discuss on the Call?
Tell me the concern bringing you to therapy and ask about my approach or availability. We can check the fee, format and physical-location rule before you decide about an intake.
What Happens at the Intake?
I ask about mental health, medical, social, family, educational and work history. We use the 60 minutes to understand your concerns and agree on goals. The intake fee is confirmed during your free consultation.
How Long Does Therapy Last?
It depends on your goals and what we find useful as we work. I do not promise a certain number of sessions or a result by a deadline. We can revisit the plan together.
Online Sessions and States
Where Can I Be for an Online Session?
You must physically be in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey or Rhode Island at each appointment. Your home address alone does not establish eligibility, and my location does not change that rule.
Can I Keep Seeing You After a Move?
Yes, if you move between the four states where I am licensed and are in one of them when we meet. Tell me about the move so we can plan for any scheduling changes.
What About Traveling or Visiting Family?
Check your physical location on the appointment day, even for a short visit. Let me know where you will be before we meet, rather than relying on the address I already have.
What If I Am Outside the Four States That Day?
We need to reschedule or meet when you are back in a licensed state. Text me about the scheduling change. An online appointment does not remove the physical-location requirement.
What Equipment Do I Need?
Use a phone or computer with a stable connection. Find a private place where you can speak without other people listening, including when you plan to meet during a lunch hour.
Can We Also Meet in Person?
I offer in-person therapy at 1000 Bridgeport Ave, Suite 307, Shelton, CT 06484. We can discuss mixing online and office sessions around your daytime weekday availability.
Rates and Insurance
What Are the Session Fees?
The intake fee is confirmed during your free consultation. The intake lasts 60 minutes. A 45-minute individual appointment is $175, in person or online, weekly or every other week. Your 15-minute consultation has no charge.
Do You Take Insurance?
Yes, I accept some insurance plans and also offer private pay. You can ask me about your plan during a free 15-minute consultation. I provide superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement, but reimbursement is not guaranteed. Check your plan directly about benefits, deductibles and submission requirements.
Can I Request a Superbill?
Ask me for a superbill if you want to seek possible out-of-network reimbursement. Your plan determines its benefits; a superbill is not a guarantee of payment. Ask the plan what information it requires.
What Is the Cancellation Policy?
Please provide 24 hours’ notice when canceling. The charge for missing a session without notice is $100. Let me know about a scheduling change instead of waiting for our next conversation.
Scheduling
Do You Offer Evenings or Weekends?
No, my appointments take place during the day on weekdays. Consider a time between classes, a lunch hour or another daytime opening that gives you enough privacy and time for the appointment.
Can I Text Between Sessions?
You can text for scheduling changes and quick updates, including a win you want to share. Texts are not for emergencies and do not replace crisis support or our regular therapy appointments.
Who I Work With
What Ages Do You See?
I work with adults 18 and up seeking therapy for themselves. My focus includes college, graduate and medical students, young professionals and adults reconsidering their direction or adjusting to parenthood.
Do You See Teens Sent by Their Parents?
That is not the fit for my practice. I work with adults choosing therapy for themselves. If what you need is outside that focus, I can point you toward other options.
What Concerns Can We Work On?
My work centers on anxiety and stress. I also help clients with depression, life transitions and parental overwhelm, including worries about decisions, losing motivation and feeling pulled away from people.
Crisis
What Should I Do in a Crisis?
For immediate crisis support, call or text 988, or call 911. Do not wait for a therapy appointment, a text reply or this website’s Questions helper if you need help now.
Is Therapy With You Crisis Care?
No. My practice is not crisis care, and between-session texting is not an emergency service. If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 now, or call 911.
Your questions about the practical details belong in the conversation too.
